**Instructor Change for Tuesday’s Conformation class

New instructor
Conformation class-Beltsville location 8:00 PM, Tuesdays

This class will prepare you for the confirmation show ring. You will learn to stack your dog (stand in a position that shows off the angulation and lines of the dog to best effect), free stack and how to move your dog around the ring. You will become familiar with the judges commands, show etiquette and how the AKC points system works.
Prerequisites: Must bring a show lead and toys or treats that get your dog motivated and excited.

Class schedule: this is an ongoing specialty class with a $10.00/class fee. Students do not need to pre-register to attend.
**Class is held on Tuesdays year-round, except during the 1-2 week break between agility class sessions. During the agility class break, Dale will also take a break from teaching conformation class.

Agility and Rally Matches/Run-Throughs

The Canine Training Association will sponsor a series of indoor Sunday Agility and Rally Matches at the Association’s facilities at 6822 and 6826 Distribution Drive in Beltsville, Maryland. The Rally is based on the American Kennel Club Rally procedures. The schedule this fall/winter seasons is as follows:

Agility matches will be held in Bldg. #6822; Rally matches will be in Bldg. # 6826 – the obedience building. Entries taken in Bldg. # 6826. Please note: All first runs must be completed before second runs begin.

The fees are $ 10.00 per dog for the first run with a $ 8.00 fee for the second run for each dog. There will be no pre-entry for the matches.

Entries will be taken from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Runs will start promptly at 10:00am.

For Agility Ring time is 3 minutes. There will be Exc Std/Novice Std Nested courses set. Indoor climate control. Rubberized Contact Equipment. Breakaway Tire. Treats, training & toys in the ring are allowed. Dogs must have agility experience and be able to use equipment safely on or off leash. No harsh verbal or physical corrections. AKC equipment, tire will be set at 4” lower than jump height unless otherwise requested by handler. For September, Agility jump height will start with Small to Tall. The Next month will start Tall to Small, alternating thereafter. For September, Rally will start with Rally Excellent, move to Advanced and finish with Novice. The next month will start with Rally Novice, alternating thereafter. The dogs will not be scored. As these are informal matches, an exhibitor may elect to do the Advanced or Excellent course on lead.

Directions to CTA: From 495/95, use Exit 23 (Route 201 – Kenilworth Avenue). Go north 4.2 miles to Distribution Drive, turn left. Note that Route 201 starts as Kenilworth Avenue, changes to Edmonston Road and then to Old Baltimore Pike. From I-95 South or North take exit 29A Powder Mill Road, at light turns into Ammendale Road,  go to Virginia Manor turn left, go to light at Murkirk Road turn right, go to light at Old Baltimore Pike turn right, go to Distribution Road, turn right at Shepherds Electric Co. to 6822 turn right to C.T.A.

Please remember to clean up after your dogs. Do not allow dogs to relieve themselves anywhere in front of the buildings or on yellow posts.

In the event of snow in sufficient quality that motorists are asked to keep off the streets, the match will be cancelled.

CTA Short Course Series

“Getting Your CGC, CGCA and Tricks Title”

Basic obedience graduates and others who have been working with their dog this year may feel ready for the Canine Good Citizen tests. There is also interest in the new Trick Dog titles. This class can help with both!   This course will end the year with six preparation classes starting on Nov. 7th in anticipation of the actual CGC/CGCA and Tricks tests offered at CTA on Dec. 19th.

This course will teach the basics of the Canine Good Citizen and the CGCA tests with the focus on the skills needed to pass the tests. And we will work with Tricks that will be on the Novice Tricks Title. This course will be taught by two CTA instructors, both of whom are CGC Evaluators.

Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at CTA (Beltsville)

November 7th through December 19th

(No class on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving)
